Clara Luz

Clara Luz's story

Clara, thirty-five years old, is an intelligent and hardworking woman who lives in the rural zone of the department/state of Sacatepéquez. She is married to a mason and is the mother of three children (7-12 years old), students in kindergarten, third and fifth grades. Clara only finished sixth grade; due to financial reasons she stopped studying.

Over five years ago, she began selling corn and tortillas, but the low demand forced her to change fields. It was in this way that five years ago she began selling pork rinds, carnitas, and pork, which she sells in a rented space. One year ago, she established a second business selling lamps in the same retail space, diversifying her business to ensure greater income and a better quality of life for her family. Now, Clara wants to inject more capital in her business, so she asks for her second Kiva loan to purchase more meat to continue making pork rinds and making the most of the season of high demand.

Friendship Bridge's Puente al Éxito program offers individual loans and business development training to women such as Clara, so that they can grow their businesses and generate jobs in their community. Topics such as good business administration, making an inventory, and skills to offer good customer service are fundamenta to a prosperous business.

The Kiva lenders are well-known for their interest in meeting female entrepreneurs such as Clara and for financing their loans. Thank you!
