Emprendedoras De Monterrey Group
A loan of $6,950 helps a member to buy kitchen utensils and personal care catalog products.
Emprendedoras De Monterrey Group's story
Thirty-four-year-old Aurora shares that she married quite early and gave birth to her first child when she was sixteen years old. Now, she has five children who range in age from eight to eighteen. All attend school. Aurora has an eighth grade education and could not continue because her parents lacked finances. Her husband works in a bakery making cakes.
For thirteen years, Aurora has been selling kitchen utensils as a street vendor. Nine years ago she started a second business selling personal care products via catalog sales. Her goal is to have her own location.
She requests her second Kiva loan to buy more kitchen utensils, as well as personal care merchandise including shampoo, soap, lotions and more.
Aurora was elected treasurer of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Emprendedoras de Monterrey” by eight women who live in the department/state of Retalhuleu. These women sell meat, secondhand clothing, jewelry, kitchen utensils, and catalog products. At their monthly meetings, they participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. A recent topic has been about how to use social media in their businesses and for effective communication. Other topics are drawn from four areas: health, family, women, business.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for partnering with Friendship Bridge to help Aurora and her friends help themselves!
