Kiva's values are reflected in its office vibe

April 24, 2019

Ever wonder what it’s like to work at Kiva? Here’s an insider’s look into our office culture...

In Kiva offices around the world, employees often refer to something we call “Kiva love,” which is when we acknowledge one another in celebration of our core values. Someone in particular who especially spreads the Kiva love - and recently got nationally recognized for it - is our Office Vibe Manager, Verlance Bershaun Friar!

Anyone who walks into our San Francisco office immediately feels welcomed and loved when they interact with Verlance. With his boldly unique, often neon, always colorful outfits, he’s sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Verlance takes office management to the next level - making Kiva an inclusive, comfortable place to work complete with impromptu dance parties, in-office haircuts and, of course, an awesome vibe. He’s a core component in creating our office culture.

“I feel that what I do in and out of the office helps the people in my office who help people around the world. I see my work as Kiva’s Office Vibe Manager having a global impact. I get to help people help people.”

His work was nationally recognized in April 2018 when he was chosen for the OfficeNinjas All-Star award. OfficeNinjas is an organization that supports and grows a community of executive assistants, office managers, and operations professionals through recognition, tech and vendor recommendations, educational content and in-person events.

Verlance was the first of just five people nationwide to be recognized as an OfficeNinja All-Star. The award includes a profile on the OfficeNinja website to showcase his work, an engraved award, a custom photoshoot and a giant check for $1,000.

OfficeNinjas even requested Verlance’s presence as a panelist at its 2019 OfficeNinjas Conference in San Francisco. He shared his experience and insight into office administration to conclude the conference.

What does Verlance have to say about our office vibe?

“Kiva is a special place. We have people from all over the world with super varied backgrounds. Everyone brought on loves people and wants to use their gifts, talents, and abilities to help change the world for the better.”

Kiva’s inclusive office culture reflects its mission and vision for a more financially-inclusive world. And 70% of Kiva’s operational costs are covered by optional tips and donations from lenders. Want to contribute to the Kiva love? Click here to make a donation to Kiva.
