Kiva comes to Oregon!

June 26, 2013

We could not be more excited to announce our very first presence in the Pacific Northwest! Oregon has joined the list of communities in the U.S. on Kiva, helping small business owners get the financing they need to grow and create jobs.

What’s more exciting is that accompanying us for the launch was none other than Oregon’s First Lady, Cylvia Hayes!

Kiva Zip will support the state’s Prosperity Initiative which aims to create a robust economy by removing barriers to overcoming poverty and empowering citizens to maximize their potential. Specifically, the goal is to reduce poverty levels from 17.5% to below 10% by 2020, raise income levels to above the national average by 2020, and reduce income inequality by 2025.

On average, every Kiva Zip loan creates 3 jobs -- making us the perfect match for this initiative!

Oregon will join initiatives in Little Rock, D.C., Los Angeles, Detroit, and New Orleans helping small business owners get the financing they need to grow and create jobs.

Partnerships with local community groups, microfinance organizations, and Kiva Zip trustees work to connect Kiva lenders to entrepreneurs they know and trust in their communities. In fact, did you know that small businesses create 2 out of every 3 new jobs in the U.S.?
