A loan helped to purchase for more firewood for resale.

Hadijah's story

Hadijah is 53 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has three children.

For the past four years, Hadijah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells firewood. To help expand her business, Hadijah has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase for more firewood for resale, and will help Hadijah to generate greater profits; her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family.

Hadijah hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business and turn it into a petrol station. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance (MF) program. The program primarily serves small group members like Hadijah, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
