Lydia's story

Lydia is 43 years old, married, and a mother of five children. Four her children are presently attending school while living at home. Lydia never had the opportunity to attend school.

Lydia mainly sells batteries, flashlights, tissue, and other items. She learned how to sell from her mother and started her business with her savings. She has been managing her sales for 6 years now and has no problem with her sales. She uses a car or kehkeh to transport supplies to her business site and sells them Monday through Saturday. She likes her business because it makes her an independent woman.

Lydia asked for a loan with BRAC Liberia, a Kiva Lending Partner, to purchase more stock to sell. Her dream for the future is to increase her business. She is very grateful to BRAC and Kiva for their support and gives her thanks!

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
